Hello all and welcome back to this week’s VIZ Substack! Did you have a sufficiently fun and spooky Halloween? I hope so, I really do. I know I did (indulged in more than my fair share of horror movies and shows, extremely sugary treats, etc.). It’s certainly a holiday that rules. You know what else rules? YOU! So in your honor, let’s jump in and take a gander at some of the fun things we’ve seen recently on our VIZ social channels!
In late October, you all set your sights on our newest otherworldly Shonen Jump Store drop, featuring Dragon Ball and Sakamoto Days collections! 🐉 🎯 Quite the epic combination, right?
We featured some truly excellent Sakamoto Days apparel in this TikTok video, fits suitable for someone with both a sordid past of brutal assassinations who also made a positive turn in the present by running a convenience store with his nice family (accompanied by an eclectic cohort of followers/friends who believe in him, of course <3). Your love for the sick merch was so strong, some of you bemoaned the sold out items! 😭 We apologize to users DomButOnTikTok and Marcus, we know it sucks when you can’t get to our truly 🔥 items in time. The manga gods know that I’ve also missed out on purchasing some very desirable collectibles throughout my 34 years on this earth, and it’s never fun. I was highly amused that, aside from the love for the Sakamoto Days apparel, you also honed in on the very quality anime-ish hair of the video’s model (by you I mean Ife and xgillthunder). 💀 I’m very jealous since my unruly, thick dew can’t even approach the anime-style finesse seen from our very haircut-blessed Shonen Jump Store model. I mean, what do you gotta do to make that a reality? Is it just excessive hairspray or gel? Genes? Some unknown X-factor I can’t think of? Whatever it is, if you know, please tell me your anime/manga-hair secrets in the comments. 💇♂️
Aside from the Sakamoto Days collection, we also featured the Dragon Ball tapestry blanket prominently in another TikTok video. justhere41557 loved it so much, they suggested making the design into a shirt 🤔. KingOfThePirateOnePiece echoed this statement, declaring the tapestry to be beautiful, which I also completely agree with. I think most people would be impressed if you had a sick Dragon Ball tapestry sprawled out in your crib, plus imagine the sheer motivation you’d feel daily seeing Goku’s happy face just beaming at you knowing he’s probably about to triumphantly ride off into the sunset via that stylish motorcycle. 🏍 Storm_red1 got it absolutely right talking about how good we have it now as anime and manga fans! I also remember the olden days as a young tyke, when goods of this caliber from series I loved were almost impossible to find in the US. The popularity of anime and manga in the West has really reached an incredible plateau, and I for one hope it continues to earn its much-deserved reverence!

On the topic of Shonen Jump titles, we see how how much you all adore Robbie Daymond, the English dub actor behind Jujutsu Kaisen’s Megumi Fushiguro!
Users IvyExecs and rengokustsuguko both mentioned what a swell guy Robbie is in person, which we absolutely agree with! We had a total blast being there, irl, behind the scenes and filming with the man himself. Being behind the script-writing and the filming direction with voice actors you admire (from series you love) is a truly fun, gratifying experience I’m proud to be apart of. Isn’t it great when a well-known individual you admire actually turns out to be a decent, kind person as well? Of course, it must be tough being in the spotlight all the time and we’re all human, so there’s bound to be times when even the chillest famous person acts a tad grumpy. Either way, it sure seems like Robbie Daymond is not only a respected voice actor for his excellent English dub anime voice acting, but also for being a good guy as well! Great job, Robbie. 👍
